Exploring the historic cities of Split, Trogir and Dubrovnik, the stunning island of Korcula and the Peljesac Peninsula

This is a relaxed week taking in the best of this striking coastal region. We start by exploring the UNESCO cities of Split and nearby Trogir, before sampling island life on beautiful Korcula, the reputed birthplace of Marco Polo. From our base in Korcula town we can wander through the winding back streets, visit the museums and sample the excellent local wines. We will swim in the clear Adriatic and enjoy a day walk through peaceful meadows and woodlands, as well as taking a boat trip to Mljet National Park. We complete our trip with three nights in Dubrovnik, arguably the most perfectly preserved Renaissance town in the world, with a jumble of narrow streets and red-tiled roofs tucked tightly within the city walls.

Itinerary:

Day 1 Start Split; transfer to Trogir and explore charming walled town. 2 Transfer to Split; free time to enjoy centre and old town before taking ferry to Korcula Island. The mediaeval walled town of Korcula is often described as a mini Dubrovnik. 3 Drive to the village of Pupnat and walk back to Korcula town through olive groves, vineyards and peaceful hamlets. 4 By boat to Mljet Island N.P.; lovely forest walk to the peak of Montokuc for panoramic views. 5 Transfer to Dubrovnik by ferry and road; visit oyster beds at Ston and wine tasting on the Peljesac Peninsula en route. 6 Dubrovnik city tour with local guide including the Rector's Palace and the Franciscan Monastery. 7 Free day to relax, explore the fascinating cobbled streets of the old town, walk along the impressive city walls or take optional trip to Mostar in neighbouring Bosnia.8 End Dubrovnik.

Mode of travel: A relaxed trip with some walking, so moderate fitness required. We use a private minibus or public bus for the majority of the daily programme, plus the occasional boat and local ferry.
